Our Story / Meet Sammy

Our Story

SammySocks Etc. was created to help our son, Samuel, become independent, help with his support, employ adults with differing abilities, provide a safe and adaptive work environment and treat our customers and employees with respect and dignity.

SammySocks Etc. opened in September of 2020. Samuel passed away on February 9, 2024. He was 26 years old. SammySocks Etc. was created to help Samuel. Since his passing, we, his parents, have decided to continue with the business. Our focus has shifted a bit. We no longer need to help Samuel, but we can help other adults with differing abilities. So, SammySocks Etc. carries on with revised Mission and Vision statements.

Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to make available dignified employment, contribute to a sense of worth, and foster respect for adults with differing abilities through the selling of quality products.

The Significance of the Peacock Feather in Our Logo

The significance of the peacock feather in our logo is that Samuel was very tactile defensive. He had a difficult time dealing with any kind of human touch. If he was prepared for it, he could tolerate it. However, if he was bumped by accident, he could become distressed and possibly had a meltdown. We use the peacock feather to show how some people with differing abilities can only tolerate the lightest touch…. like a feather. The colors of the peacock feather also closely resemble the colors of Autism Awareness. So…. the peacock feather.

We hope that the experiences you have with SammySocks Etc. will be encouraging and supportive. Thank you.

Meet Sammy of SammySocks Etc.

Samuel was a young adult. He was born in Round Rock, Texas. He was homeschooled by Sally, his mother, until the seventh grade. Samuel attended middle and high school in the Hutto ISD. He graduated from high school in 2017. He then attended the Hutto ISD 18+ Program until 2020. He passed away in February of 2024. He was 26 years old.

Samuel had quite a few interests. He liked trains, elevators, toilets, video games, bells, clocks, and Walmart to name a few. He really liked the Walmart in Clifton Park, New York. We had visited it four times. He also liked the Walmart on the west side of Flint, Michigan. Both Walmart stores had a unique feature to their public address system. A sound like a train horn was emitted before each announcement. Samuel really liked this.

Samuel liked to take rides in the car. He liked to listen to music on the radio while riding. He was fond of Katy Perry. Samuel had the ability to “mash-up” songs. He knew which songs went together. One song would be playing on the radio and Samuel would be singing another song along with it at the same time.

SammySocks Etc. is quite small currently. We sell socks for children, women, and men. Our website is www.sammysocksetc.com. Samuel put together our information packet. He put a candy treat, a discount coupon, a poem, a Sammy Saying, and a card explaining our story into a baggie. This baggie goes with every order. He also put together our Bells and Whistles Bag.

Samuel was eager for you to order from SammySocks Etc.!
