America Is Being Harmed: What is Happening, How You Can Give Support to Those Harmed, and How to Take Action

· Current actions and policies of our government are harming the people of the United States of America.

· Actions and policies are reducing or cutting funds provided to federal, state, and local agencies, organizations, and departments that help people.

· Federal workers who provide an array of critical services to the people of our country are being indiscriminately fired.

· Actions must be taken by ordinary Americans to stop these harmful actions and policies.

SammySocks Etc. was created to help our son, Samuel, be independent, have a safe place to work, and to help other adults with differing abilities. Samuel passed away in February of 2024 at the age of 26. SammySocks Etc. continues on with this mission and vision of helping other adults with differing abilities.

Integral to our mission and vision, SammySocks Etc. donates 5% of its earnings to United Partners of Pflugerville, Texas. UP is an organization that allows adults with differing abilities to come and spend the day to learn, work, and live as a community. SammySocks Etc. donates one pair of socks for every $25 purchased through our website to the Hope Alliance of Round Rock, Texas. The Hope Alliance is a resource center and emergency shelter for those affected by family and sexual violence.

However, as a result of many current harmful actions and policies of our government , SammySocks Etc. would like to make the following an additional part of its mission and vision:

+ inform people what is happening in this country as a result of the current government’s actions and policies;

+ give people a chance to show their support in specific ways to help organizations and people harmed by the actions and policies of our current government;

+ let people know how they can take action to help those affected by our current government and to get our current government to stop.

This has three components:

1. Be Informed – Each month we will inform people about one specific action or policy that our current government has conducted or is contemplating conducting that will harm the American people.

2. Give Support – Each month we will tell people how they can help give support to an organization harmed by the current government through the purchase of products from SammySocks Etc. and the subsequent donation of 20% of sales to a specific organization harmed by the current government.

3. Take Action – Each month we will let people know what they can do to help change what the current government is doing to harm the American people.

Update on May’s America Is Being Harmed Donation

SammySocks Etc. donated 20% of its May 2025 sales to Meals on Wheels Central Texas. The amount of sales for May was $55.75. The donation amount was $11.15. June’s donation organization is AmeriCorps.

June 2025

Our Message

1. AmeriCorps is a national service program that provides Americans opportunities to serve their country, improve lives, and help communities within the United States. AmeriCorps is a federal agency and receives funding from the federal government.

2. The Trump administration has eliminated almost $400 million of the funding of an almost 1 billion dollar budget. Thousands of AmeriCorps workers have had to stop working or have been fired. Many projects have been terminated or greatly reduced.

3. Many communities rely on the help of AmeriCorps for a variety of projects. Many of these same communities will also feel the financial pinch of the loss of AmeriCorps funding.

Give Support

SammySocks Etc. will donate 20% of all sales during the month of June 2025 to AmeriCorps. 20% of your purchase will go toward helping provide AmeriCorps with the funding needed to provide assistance with natural disaster response, tackling poverty issues, and improving health for communities across the United States.

1. Donate directly to AmeriCorps.

2. Volunteer at your local organizations that serve as partners with AmeriCorps.

3. Contact (visit, call, email, text, and/or write letters) your local officials in your city, county, state, and federal government. Let them know that they need to step up and support AmeriCorps. You can find who your elected officials are at this website: https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials.

4. Specifically contact your federal elected officials (congressmen or congresswomen and senators) to let them know that you do not support the cuts to this federal program that helps communities all across our country.

Update on April’s America Is Being Harmed Donation

SammySocks Etc. donated 20% of its April 2025 sales to the Central Texas Food Bank. The amount of sales for April was $16.70. The donation amount was $3.34. May’s donation organization is Meals on Wheels Central Texas.

May 2025

Our Message

1. The Administration for Community Living (ACL), which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services, is in charge of the Meals on Wheels program. The Older Americans Act Nutrition Program funds this program. The Trump administration is threatening to reduce of even cut the funding for the Meals on Wheels program.

2. Almost 60% of the Meals on Wheels providers across the United States rely on this funding for at least half of their revenue. The Trump administration has fired the entire staff that oversees the Social Services Block Grant program that is the source of the funds for Meals on Wheels.

3. 1 in 4 Americans are over the age of 60. Almost 13 million Americans are threatened or experience hunger. Eliminating the workers who oversee the money that funds the Meals on Wheels program is harming older Americans. There are waiting lists for this program in most parts of the country which shows that Meals on Wheels is already underfunded.

4. The Meals on Wheels program needs not to be cut, but expanded and funding needs to be increased. The Continuing Resolution that Congress recently passed keeps the funding amount at current levels through September of 2025. Congress needs to continue the program and increase funding.

5. The Meals on Wheels program helps older Americans stay healthy and live in their own homes. This is much less expensive than the increased cost of long-term care in an institutional setting.

SammySocks Etc. will donate 20% of all sales during the month of May 2025 to Meals on Wheels Central Texas. 20% of your purchase will go toward helping provide a noontime, home delivered meal, 5 days a week, for 52 weeks each year to enable seniors to remain living independently at home. Your purchase will help offset the costs of filling this need.
