Peering out at the vast expanse of the water, a lone figure unsuccessfully shielded his eyes from the searing rays of the sun. The movement of the water was relentless. The never-ending heat fried his skin and parched his lips. He could feel the energy leaving his body like rats from a sinking ship.
Time and time and then time again the water swelled up and down each time threatening to swallow him up. The elements battered and ravaged him. The loneliness was as palpable as the spray that seemed to pummel him from all sides.
He did not know how much longer he could survive. But he knew he had to go on. He couldn’t give in! It felt like the entire world depended on him! There was no one else that could do it!
Suddenly he felt alive! The spirit of survival burst forth in him like the dawning of a new day. Yes, he could do it! He dug down deep and drew on all that was good, honorable, and right with the world. Arms outstretched, he felt as if he were the king of the……….!
“Mark, you’re not doing your Jack Dawson impersonation again are you? Is the pool ready yet? Samuel would like to go swimming.”
